This guide walks you through how to enable two-step verification using the Google Authenticator app. Two-step verification helps secure your Hope College Google account by requiring both your password and a code generated on your phone when logging in.

By following this guide, you’ll connect your mobile authenticator app to your Hope account to help keep your email and data secure.

 Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  1. An active Hope College Google account.

  2. Access to your Hope College email.

  3. The Google Authenticator app installed on your phone (iOS or Android).

 Instructions

1. Click on the Hope College logo in the upper right corner of your email

2. Click on Manage your Google Account

3. Click on Security

4. Click on 2-Step Verification

5. Sign in

6. Scroll down and click on Authenticator app

7. Click on Set up authenticator

8. A QR code will appear. Scan this with the Authenticator app on your phone

 Tips & Notes

If you already have two-step verification enabled with another method (e.g., text), you can still add the Authenticator app as an additional option.

  • If you change phones, you’ll need to reconfigure the Authenticator app on your new device.

  • Back up your recovery codes in a secure location in case you lose access to your phone.

  • You can always update your verification methods from the same Security tab in your Google Account settings.
