This guide walks you through how to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using your phone number to protect your Hope College account. MFA provides an extra layer of security by requiring you to verify your identity with a unique code sent to your phone.
By enabling MFA, you reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your account—even if your password is compromised.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure that you have:
-
An active Hope College account and credentials.
-
A mobile phone capable of receiving text messages.
Instructions
1. Visit link.hope.edu/mfa
2. Click on Get started
3. Enter your username and password when prompted.
4. Type in your phone number.
5. Select how you would like to receive your code. We recommend "Text Message."
6. Click on "Next."
7. You will receive a text message from Google with a code. Enter the code in the provided box.
8. Click "Turn On" to complete the process!
Tips & Notes
After setup, you’ll be asked for a verification code when signing in from a new device or location.
-
Keep your phone nearby when logging in to ensure quick access to codes.
-
You can update your MFA settings later to use an authenticator app or backup method.
-
If you don’t receive the code, double-check your phone number and signal or try “Voice Call” as a backup.
