This guide walks you through the process of using the Grackle Docs extension in Google Docs to review and improve your document’s accessibility. Grackle Docs scans for common issues that may affect how screen readers or assistive technologies interpret your content—ensuring your documents are usable for all readers.

This is especially useful for meeting accessibility compliance or improving digital inclusivity.

 Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  1. An active Google account.

  2. A completed or draft Google Doc that you'd like to check.

  3. The Grackle Docs extension installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace.


 Instructions

1. Install the Grackle Docs extension

2. Enter your document and click Extensions

3. Click on Grackle Docs, then Launch

4. Click on areas of concern to address them


 Tips & Notes

Common issues may include missing alt text, heading structure problems, or low color contrast.

  • Install Grackle Docs from the Google Workspace Marketplace if it doesn’t appear under Extensions.

  • Address one issue at a time for more effective accessibility improvements.

  • Rerun the scan after making changes to confirm the document passes accessibility checks.
